Today was our first meeting in preparation for our trip to Belgium. I found out that there are also three girls from universities in Florida, Alabama, and New Mexico who will be joining us. We got to Skype with them during our meeting which was really cool because it allowed them to be engaged in the meeting with us.
We discussed which places we would like to go on our weekend excursions, and I believe we decided on Paris and London. I can't wait to try all the delicious food in Paris and to see the Eiffel Tower. While in London, I will make it my goal to visit the Buckingham Palace. I just know that I can get one of the guards to lose their composure. I really wanted to go to Germany, but there would be such a language barrier that we wouldn't be able to get much accomplished. Maybe one day I can learn enough German to spend some time there.
Getting my passport was quite the ordeal. The morning I went to turn in the paperwork and get my photo taken, I checked the passport website to make sure my outfit wasn't violating the dress code. But apparently it is an unspoken rule that you aren't supposed to wear shirts with words on them. Well, I showed up in a worded shirt, so I had to turn my shirt backwards for my photo! You're also not allowed to smile, which is not good on my end because I just look really perturbed if I'm not smiling.
Overall, I am very excited for my first international travel experience. The only thing I'm not looking forward to is the roughly twenty-two hour flight to get there and back!
